- Prepare 8 oz pkg. cream cheese (room temp)
- Prepare 8 oz container sour cream
- Prepare 1/4 cup milk
- Prepare 1/2 tbsp cream-style prepared horseradish
- Take 2 2.5 ounce packages sliced dried beef, coarsely chopped
- Make ready 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion

Here's a quick step by step and I'll share the recipe down. Cream Cheese - Some dried beef dip recipes call for a smaller amount of cream cheese and more sour cream. Yet, I prefer a thick spreadable dip, so my recipe is heavy on the cream cheese. The original recipe calls for chopped green pepper but I omitted that and swapped the chopped onion for green onion.
Instructions to make Hot Chipped Beef Dip:
- Preheat oven to 400°
- In a medium bowl beat cream cheese until fluffy. Beat in sour cream, milk and horseradish until combined. Stir in dried beef, onion, celery and dillweed. Transfer mixture to a seasoned or greased 8-9 inch cast iron skillet.
- Bake 20 minutes or until mixture is hot and bubbly.
- If desired, serve with dill pickle slices, ritz crackers, rye crackers or potato chips.
This way the dip still has a pretty green color sprinkled throughout, but now the garlic flavor really shines. This is a really tasty dip hearty and a nice alternative to sweeter spreads. I'm a little salt sensitive but it's easy to reduce the saltiness of the chipped beef by soaking/rinsing the dried chipped beef in water for a while before you drain/dry and add in to the mixture. This is a cold chipped beef dip but you can also make a version that is baked and served hot. It usually has scallions and pecans in it or on top.
